Our Curriculum

Creative Curriculum

The philosophy of The Creative Curriculum is that young children learn best by doing. They believe that all children learn through active exploration of their environment and therefore the environment plays a critical role in learning. The goal of Creative Curriculum is to help children become independent, self-confident, inquisitive and enthusiastic learners by actively exploring their environment.

The planned activities for the children, the organization of the environment, the selection of toys and materials, planning the daily schedule and interacting with the children, are all designed to accomplish the goals and objectives of the curriculum and give your child a successful learning experience.

The learning environment is arranged into ten interest areas to create a positive atmosphere.

  1. Art
  2. Music and Movement
  3. Discovery (Science)
  4. Outdoors
  5. Dramatic Play (Housekeeping)
  6. Toys and Games (Manipulative)
  7. Technology
  8. Library (Quiet Area)
  9. Sand and Water
  10. Blocks

The richer the environments, the more concrete opportunities there are for children to learn by interacting with materials and people. The teacher’s role is to create an environment that invites children to observe, to be active, to make choices, and to experiment.

The Learning Accomplishment Profile System (LAP)

Along with The Creative Curriculum, we implement The Learning Accomplishment Profile System (LAP). LAP has two basic elements:

  • Assessment: First we must learn what children can and cannot do before we can plan effective learning activities.
  • Curriculum: Once we have conducted the assessment, we can develop an individualized curriculum that will be developmentally appropriate based on the child’s age and stage of development.

The LAP system assesses skills and progresses children forward in their learning in six domains:

  • Gross Motor
  • Language
  • Fine Motor
  • Self-Help
  • Cognitive
  • Social-Emotional

The teachers will fill out a scoring profile booklet on each child, which will show where they were assessed and the progress that they are making throughout the year. We will share this booklet with the parents during our parent/teacher conferences in November and April. However, at any time you would like to view the progress you have made, please speak to your child’s teacher.

If you should have any further questions please feel free to contact your Director and Assistant Director.
